Teenagers Sheridan Kohl and Jason Wyatt were parked at the lake in Whiterock, Tennessee, when a stranger wearing a ski mask shot them both. Sheridan lived but Jason died—and the stranger was never caught. Even though Sheridan's family moved away right afterward, she's never been able to put the crime behind her. And now that someone doesn't want her to come home Because of a new development in the case, Sheridan returns to Whiterock. But when she's attacked a second time, it's only because of Jason's stepbrother, Cain Granger, that she survives—and Cain's the last person she wants to face. If not for their history, if not for her, Jason wouldn't have been in that parked car. Cain knows that whoever killed his brother probably isn't a stranger at all. But figuring out that person's identity is easier said than done—especially since the killer seems to be taunting them both: watch me.

I enjoyed this installment of the series, although I thought it was a little bit predictable. Two things bothered me though, and kept me from giving it 5 stars. I couldn't stand her in the first book, and I absolutely despised her arrogant, know-it-all self in this book. First, someone who loves their dogs as much as Cain wouldn't leave them outside locked in a pen with such a threat out there -- especially after they'd been drugged and easily could've been killed. That made it hard to really get behind the character Cain. Then the deplorable Skye showed up. I wish the author would've had her move away at the end of her book and dropped her from the series. She's just unbearable.Looking forward to the next in the series.
I have read every book by Brenda Novak, and this one was excellant, Brenda grabs you from the first page, and she hasnever failed me with the suspence. Ruth
After reading the first two books in this series, "Trust Me", and "Stop Me", I was looking forward to this one. I wasn't disappointed. Brenda Novak has moved up on my list of authors. Loved all three books.
The story is about a woman who returns to her home town, where twelve years earlier she had witnessed a murder and was shot herself. I have not read the other two books in "The Last Stand" trilogy, but this book did not have many surprises for me. This type of book is not my genre, but I belong to a book club and I was sent this book in the first batch that I received. And trouble finds her again as she is beaten and left for dead. The book is OK, and I did read it all, but I would have liked a bit more suspense.
I could not put this book down. (Just like her other ones) Novak is one of y favorites. Had you guessing until the end.
